The Wasp Family

June 22, 2009

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know… that door frame sure looks dirty from this point of view… listen, when it comes to “man-jobs” around here, I fail miserably. Mowing grass and washing soffits just doesn’t fit into my schedule.

Here’s a pic of the nest. Not quite as big and frightening as I had recalled. With the passage of time, the nest was growing bigger and bigger in my head.:)

But! I did feel pretty bad when I was explaining to Jackson, answering his questions, about why the wasps/hornets built the nest… I explained that was where they laid the eggs and fed their babies… and, yes, mommy just bought a can of wasp-family killer and when it gets dark and the wasp-family is in it’s nest then mommy will spray it…. WHAT!?!

Ugh. How can I teach my child to respect nature etc, and at the same time “kill” the wasps because they built their house on mine…

I’m going to have to sleep on this one. Let’s just hope that during the night some giant aliens don’t land on planet earth and decide to shoot radioactive foam into my house….

surprisingly, i have seen NO action near it… no one going in or coming out… my dad just stopped by, and he said, “yeah that’s definitely a hornet’s nest”… and he was pretty pragmatic in his attitude about it, I told him I may just keep an eye on it, and he seemed to concur that it could be abandoned…

      we shall see…
