I have a 8 years non-verbal autistic child and he never make a word. His academic skills is pretty good but he never talk but in a three weeks ago on Aug. 30, 09 he made a sound as umm-ma(mama in Korean). At that moment, I and my husband was in outside of laundromat. There is a gas station with groceries across the street that we stood. He pointed us to go there but we said, we will go there when you make a sound um-ma. He cried but we refused and told him if you want to go there, you should say um-ma.
He tried but no sound came out from his mouse. but Finally, he made a sound as umm-ma in a several times. not any other word yet but it will continue to let him making more and more.

She started it on the way to Atlanta in the car, and we practiced it for the rest of the trip. Then, as we waited for 2 hours to be seen by the dr., we sat in the waiting room and practiced it, again. But, she initiated it in the car, originally. I was shocked, at first. Was she trying to get my attention in the car? That sound is something we have worked on for a long time. Or is she motivated by the new rules at Kicklighter, where the new ABA lady wants her to make some sort of sound, instead of just pointing?
