The Family that poops Together Stays Together

June 19, 2009

I don’t like waking up to poop. I am just going to go ahead and admit that I don’t like it. Not going to pretend that I find enlightenment in cleaning up dirty bottoms first thing after rolling out of bed in the morning. (is there a good time of day to clean up poop? LOL Sure, anytime as long as it’s not within 30 minutes of me opening my eyes.) But, alas, as long as I am a mother and a mother of an autistic daughter, that is my fate.

I awoke this morning to Josephine’s “mama…mama”… So, I went to the girls’ room to retrieve her, and she was standing in her crib and pointed outward, Olivia was still laying on her bed, Josephine blabbers out in toddler english, “mama, wipe… poo-poo”… “oh,” I said, “you went poo-poo, I’m sorry baby let’s go get you cleaned up…” and her response was, “yes, wipe”… So I carried her into the other room to clean her up, but she was already dealing with a painful diaper rash so I took her in the shower to give her a good gentle cleaning. (baby wipes are terribly irritating, especially on a rash).

great. finish her up. one clean toddler, and a clean mama.

She gestures at me with and points in the air toward the direction of her bedroom. She babbles something, and I said, “yes you need a diaper”, and she starts pattering off to her room and points at Olivia.

Still stinky. Wow, Josephine really stunk it up in here… No, no… ack! Olivia, covered in poop. Bed linens dirty… ohhh, on the floor too. *sigh* I thought to myself, now I really have reason to wash the floors today.

So, I shuffled Olivia off to the shower too. I was laughing to myself because I think Josephine’s original beckoning to me was to tell me that Olivia had pooped. LOL…

Eh. Just a typical day in the life of an autistic family… cleaning up poop.
