Have you ever spent the weekend in the woods with Special Forces?
I am laughing this morning because John and I are going to spend the weekend camping at the Okeefenokee. I truly am excited, as I think two days in the outdoors is exactly what I need. Relax, canoe, hike, John can practice his photography, I can search for wildlife. For two days, we can play naturalists. and I can’t wait.
But here’s what is funny. First of all, he lives on the opposite side of the state from me. Literally. He is on the Alabama border on the banks of the Chattahoochee river, and I live on the Coastal side. They eat barbecue and talk like Alabamans over there and where I live we eat shell fish and natives speak with a Savannah/coastal accent. This decision to camp for the weekend at Okeefenokee was sort of last minute, I mean we made the decision just last weekend to meet up at the state park (on the southern side of the swamp).

LOL, gator forecast?? ha ha and we just happen to be camping at the point of "gator galore", yeeowzers... don't stick your toes in the water! (image from http://www.okefenokee.com/alligators_okefenokee.html)
It dawned on me this morning, the dichotomy of our personalities going into this weekend. I am the queen of being prepared. I don’t mind getting caught in an unpredicted circumstance, but I like to be prepared in advance should I need anything. Oh! Got a cut, no problem here’s a bandaid. Thirsty? no problem here’s a water filter. Feeling sticky? no problem here’s a baby wipe. Wet? no problem here’s a pair of wick-away socks.
John on the other hand, Mr. Special Forces and its starting to become apparent to me the personality characteristics that he possesses that made him a Special-Ops guy back in the day, is not afraid of being unprepared or without. He is sooooo chill and ready to go with the flow, he can throw an armful into his truck and not worry about whether he’s packed sunscreen or a bandaid.
I was amusing myself with the picture here… the girl who dreams of being a surgeon someday, and the Green Beret. Preparing for a weekend together in the woods, and our two different approaches to the situation are so perfectly characteristic.
I love it.
Anyway, yeah, I get to go spend the weekend in the woods, or swamp…. yippee. Can’t wait. And have no fear, I have my snake bite kit already packed. LOL

I'm ready.
