Summer Reading Stack
After finals, it took me about a week and a half to come to the sense that it was okay to sit and read a book for pleasure. Seriously. I could barely bring myself to read a darned magazine…. and do you know what subscriptions I get? The Economist, Chemical and Engineering News, Women’s Fitness, and Harper’s Bazaar… Hardly guilty reading. LOL
So, after a visit with my guru, he suggested that I go ahead and allow myself to read a darned book. I told him that I really was wanting to read a trash-novel. I’ve never read one.
And with that, I left the guru’s office, and headed to the B-and-N. I couldn’t bring myself to actually buy a trash novel, let alone be seen in the section. Besides, I realized that I did after all want a decent “story” to read. So, what do I have on my nightstand now?

Start with a Pop Classic
1. The Andromeda Strain. Cause guess what!?! I’ve never read a Crichton novel. Why not start with the original. It’s been fun reading!
2. Praying For Sheetrock, by Melissa Fay Greene. A novel about race and politics and corruption in a coastal Georgia county during the 70′s.
3. The Best of Roald Dahl, by obviously Roald Dahl. collection of short stories.
4. Digital Black and White Photography, by John Beardsworth. pretty self-explanatory.
5. The Adventures of Jimmy Corrigan, The Smartest Kid on Earth, by F.C. Ware. a graphic novel.

And of course I committed the ultimate reader/ book buyer sin, cause I still have Three Lives by Gertrude Stein sitting over there, waiting for me.
At least for now, I can enjoy the mindlessness required of the Crichton novel. It sure is fun to read a fun suspenseful story.
I may have to read some of his other books at some point. After, of course, I finish the rest of the stack.
Lol, I grabbed that book too when I felt like reading something unimportant last year. I had never read any of his books either. Let me know if any of the rest are good. I’m always looking for new books.
Yeah, I laughed the other day when Dad told me the ENT told him that whatever virus he had attacked his auditory nerve. I told him I was giggling because I’d just started reading Andromeda Strain…. add to that some crazy virus attacking Dad’s head, and well, Faye’s gotta laugh.
