Sweet Olivia…We were out in the yard yesterday, and of course, Olivia was doing “her thing” which is to rummage through the plants and leaves. I have to move fast to keep up with Olivia when she’s outside because she is literally like a train on rails. If she is not stopped she just keeps going and going and going until she’s walked away into someone else’s backyard or out in the street. Of course, for any other 4 year old to be in someone’s backyard it would be no problem, and for any other 4 year old to walk in the street it would probably be okay ’cause they know that cars exist. Such is not the case with Olivia.
So, here’s the thing; it is very difficult for me to get Olivia to look me directly in the eye. It happens, but when it does it’s for a fleeting moment. Here are two perfect examples:
When I snapped this photo in the yard yesterday, I of course said “Olivia, look at mommy”, and this was as close as I could get to seeing her eyes.

I wasn’t really thinking about it then, I suppose because I’ve grown so used to it. However, when I loaded it onto my computer, I was scrolling through pics, and found the one below. The photo below is when she was just going on two years old, and by the way this is one of my favorite photos of her (i think this is Kiawah island), but the difference is striking in terms of her interaction with mommy.
